Creigiau Pottery

Founded: studio opened in 1947 as the Southcliffe Ceramic Company by Reg and Jean Southcliffe; renamed Creigiau Pottery in 1948.

Speciality: domestic tableware and decorative earthenware, best known for copper lustreware (including novelty items like the “Welsh dragon” pie funnel) and pale-grey glazed wares.

the Southcliffes took over Claypits Pottery in 1962, renaming it Vale Pottery (later Helyg under new owners).

Creigiau produced tourist-facing craft shop lines and exported reproduction antique jugs, coffee sets and lustreware widely through the 1950s–1970s.

Reg Southcliffe died in 1981; Jean continued for a short period before retirement. The studio closed by the late 1970s/early 1980s as demand fell and operations wound down
