Vintage Franciscan Apple side plate from the later English-made production of this iconic American dinnerware pattern.
Apple was first introduced by Franciscan in 1940 and became one of the company's best-known designs. The original pattern was developed as an embossed, hand-decorated earthenware design inspired by California's apple-growing landscape.
Following Wedgwood's acquisition of Franciscan, production of Apple was transferred from California to England in 1984, where it was manufactured within Wedgwood's Johnson Brothers operation. English production continued until the early 2000s before manufacture moved to China.
This plate features the familiar Franciscan Apple decoration of red fruit, green leaves and warm brown branches against a creamy ground.
Ideal as an individual replacement for an existing Franciscan Apple service or for gradually building a collection.
