Pair Vintage Teal Satin Art Glass Vases – White Spatter 5"

A striking matching pair of vintage teal satin art-glass vases, each standing approximately 5" / 12.7 cm high.

The vases have a beautifully simple rounded, almost spherical form with a small circular opening. The exterior has been given a soft frosted/satin finish, while the rims remain smooth and glossy, creating a subtle contrast between the two surfaces.

Their most distinctive feature is the white spatter glass incorporated into the teal body. The decoration becomes increasingly dense towards the bottom, creating an almost snowy or pebble-like effect around the lower portion of each vase. Viewed from underneath, the concentration of white inclusions becomes particularly dramatic.

The undersides are slightly concave rather than completely flat and show no maker's signature or factory mark.

Teal and white spatter decoration is documented across several European and later studio-glass traditions. Similar colour combinations occur in Bohemian glass, including work associated with Franz Welz, but secure Welz attribution normally depends upon matching both a recognised décor and a documented factory form. We have not found a sufficiently close documented shape to attribute these vases to Welz or another named manufacturer.

Interestingly, another pair of unidentified aqua/turquoise art-glass vases measuring approximately 5" high and carrying similar white spatter decoration has also surfaced on the secondary market, where the seller likewise declined to assign a manufacturer because no identifying mark was present.

Other vintage hand-blown teal and white spatter glass is currently catalogued simply as unidentified art glass, reinforcing our decision not to attach a speculative maker to this pair.

I would therefore describe these conservatively as vintage European-style art glass, probably mid-to-late 20th century, with the maker currently unidentified.

Condition

Good vintage condition with minor surface marks and signs of previous display consistent with age. The satin finish can naturally make light surface marks more noticeable from certain angles.

No maker's marks or labels have been identified.

The wonderfully restrained shape and rich teal-and-white colour combination give these a strong mid-century decorative feel. Displayed together, they're much more effective than either would be alone, so I would definitely keep the pair intact.
