Katie’s Vintage Corner – Celebrating 20 Years of Mid-Century Ceramics

Welcome to KatiesVintageCorner.com, a dedicated online home for lovers of mid-century ceramics and timeless vintage design.
I’ve spent over 20 years collecting, studying, and selling ceramics from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. What began as a personal passion for retro design has grown into a lifelong mission to celebrate the artistry, craftsmanship, and beauty of mid-century pottery.
From iconic Midwinter pottery patterns to rare collectible pieces, I curate a collection that reflects the very best of this golden design era.
Why I Love Mid-Century Ceramics
There’s something incredibly special about ceramics from the mid-20th century. These were decades of creativity, optimism, and bold new ideas in design. Everyday tableware became stylish and fun, and designers experimented with fresh patterns and modern shapes.
Mid-century ceramics are not just functional items – they are pieces of history. Each design reflects the cultural shifts of the post-war years, when households were embracing modern living and expressive, colourful interiors.
Spotlight on Jessie Tait – My Favourite Designer
One name stands out above all others in my journey as a collector: Jessie Tait.
Jessie was one of the most influential designers at Midwinter Pottery, where she worked from the 1940s through the 1970s. Her bold yet elegant patterns captured the spirit of the era perfectly.
Some of her most famous designs include:
Zambesi – a striking, geometric black and white pattern.
Mexicana – full of vibrant colour and energy.
Spanish Garden – soft florals with timeless appeal.
What I love about Jessie’s work is her ability to make vintage tableware both practical and stylish. Her designs have stood the test of time and remain highly collectible today.
For collectors of Midwinter Jessie Tait designs, her pieces are not just pottery – they are treasures that connect us to the creativity of Britain’s mid-century design movement.
