Antique Amethyst Carnival Glass 3-Footed Floral & Grape Bowl – 6"

A striking antique carnival glass bowl in a rich deep amethyst-purple base glass, displaying vivid iridescent flashes of blue, violet, bronze, gold and green as the light changes.

Measuring approximately 6 inches across, the bowl stands on three substantial faceted feet and has a deeply shaped, ruffled rim. The interior is heavily moulded with an elaborate botanical design featuring a large central many-petalled flower surrounded by broad leaves, smaller floral forms and clusters of berries or grapes.

The underside is comparatively plain and reveals the deep purple colour of the underlying glass particularly well, together with the three-footed construction and raised central moulded area.

The bowl was previously attributed to Northwood, but after comparing the decoration and construction with documented Northwood patterns, we have not found sufficient evidence to support that attribution. In particular, it does not correspond closely with the established Northwood Grape & Cable pattern. Northwood Grape & Cable three-footed fruit bowls use characteristic scrolled feet and documented grape-and-cable decoration.

No Northwood N-in-circle mark has been found on this example. As unmarked carnival glass does exist, the absence of a mark alone does not identify or exclude a manufacturer. We therefore prefer to offer this piece as maker unidentified rather than attach an uncertain attribution.

A comparable unidentified vintage three-footed carnival bowl with an all-over flower-and-grape interior is documented at approximately 6.5 inches across, demonstrating that similar small floral-and-grape forms exist outside confidently attributed Northwood patterns.

A wonderfully atmospheric piece of early-style carnival glass, particularly attractive when displayed where changing light can catch the iridescent surface. 🌈
