Antique Crown Ducal Blush Ware Rose Vase – Large 13" A.G. Richardson

An impressive large antique Crown Ducal Ware vase by A.G. Richardson & Co Ltd, standing approximately 13" / 33 cm high.

The vase has an elegant early-20th-century form with a broad rounded lower body, long slender neck and dramatically flared rim. Its warm ivory/blush ground is richly decorated with pink, yellow and lavender roses, smaller blue flowers and green foliage.

Elaborate gold-coloured swags, scrollwork and geometric accents frame the central floral bouquet and continue around the body, giving the vase a particularly decorative Art Nouveau-influenced appearance.

The underside carries the early Crown Ducal Ware / A.G.R. & Co Ltd / England strap-and-buckle backstamp, together with hand-applied references including A211 and No. 21.

A.G. Richardson established the Gordon Pottery at Tunstall in 1915 and used Crown Ducal as its principal trade name. The strap-and-buckle mark with A.G.R. & Co Ltd / England printed beneath it belongs to the company's early period. Specialist research into Crown Ducal backstamps associates this general style with production from the company's foundation through the 1920s.

I would therefore describe this example conservatively as c.1915–1920s, rather than claiming an exact 1915 manufacture date.
