Antique Victorian Floral Porcelain Jug with Rope Handle & Registered Design Mark – 6"

A wonderfully unusual Victorian porcelain jug, dating from the second half of the 19th century and featuring an impressed British registered-design diamond or lozenge mark to the base.

The jug has a distinctive architectural form, with a square flared mouth, square pedestal base and rounded body. Raised beading beneath the rim and moulded decoration add texture, while the elaborate rope-effect loop handle is one of its most striking features.

Delicate sprays of pink flowers and green foliage decorate the white porcelain body, complemented by gilt bands and gilt detailing around the rim and handle.

The underside carries an impressed Victorian diamond registration mark. These marks were used for British ornamental designs between 1842 and 1883, with ceramic wares belonging to Class IV. The mark records the registration of the design rather than necessarily the precise manufacturing date of the individual piece.

The impression on this example is shallow beneath the glaze and the individual date characters cannot be read with sufficient certainty, so we have deliberately not assigned an exact registration year or maker.

Details: Approximately 6" / 15.2 cm high. Porcelain/ceramic construction with a square mouth and base, moulded rope-style handle, floral decoration and gilt detailing. Impressed British registered-design lozenge to the underside.

Condition: Antique condition with age-related wear, including wear to the gilt decoration and minor surface marks consistent with a Victorian ceramic of this age. The registration mark is faint but visible on the underside. Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description.

A particularly attractive piece of Victorian decorative pottery, with an unusual shape and the added historical interest of its original registered-design mark.
