Antique Wedgwood Cobalt Blue Jasperware Three-Handled Tyg Loving Cup c.1900

A striking antique Wedgwood Jasperware three-handled tyg or loving cup, dating to around the turn of the 20th century.

Finished in rich cobalt blue Jasperware, the cup is decorated with finely applied white classical sprigged reliefs. The central figure depicts Thalia, Muse of Comedy, shown holding a theatrical mask and crook, surrounded by elegant neoclassical ornament. Further classical decoration continues around the body and across each of the three handles.

The underside carries the impressed WEDGWOOD / ENGLAND mark. The addition of “ENGLAND” to Wedgwood wares is consistent with production from the late 19th into the early 20th century, supporting a c.1900 date for this example.

The unusual three-handled tyg form makes this a particularly attractive piece for collectors of early Wedgwood Jasperware.
