Vintage Furnivals Old Chelsea Blue Demitasse Coffee Cup & Saucer

A charming small coffee cup and matching saucer by Furnivals Ltd of England in the long-running Old Chelsea pattern.

Decorated in classic blue and white transferware, Old Chelsea combines Chinoiserie-inspired birds and foliage with floral medallions and geometric borders. The design was registered in 1915 under registration number 647812, which appears on marked examples of the pattern.

This is the smaller coffee or demitasse form rather than the standard teacup. Documented examples measure approximately 6.5 cm across the cup with an 11.5 cm saucer, although individual production examples can vary slightly. 

Old Chelsea remained in production for many decades, with later production continuing under Wedgwood's Mason's Ironstone division from the 1970s until 1999. Because of its long production history, backstamps, print depth and small manufacturing details can vary between pieces. FURNIVALS POTTERY
