Gwili Pottery was established in 1976 near Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, Wales, operating until approximately 2008. Founded by potter David Garland, the pottery became renowned for its distinctive hand-thrown stoneware and earthenware pieces featuring traditional Welsh designs and motifs.
Located in the picturesque Gwili Valley (from which it takes its name), the pottery specialized in functional and decorative ceramics including jugs, bowls, vases, and commemorative pieces. Gwili Pottery was particularly celebrated for its use of rich glazes—especially deep blues, greens, and earthy tones—and for incorporating Welsh dragons, daffodils, and Celtic patterns into their designs.
David Garland and his team of skilled artisan potters created pieces that were proudly Made in Wales, with each item typically bearing the distinctive Gwili Pottery mark on the base. The pottery's work exemplified the Welsh studio pottery movement of the late 20th century, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
Since production ceased in the late 2000s, authentic Gwili Pottery pieces have become increasingly collectible, valued for their quality craftsmanship and distinctive Welsh character.
