Vintage Åseda Glasbruk Green Art Glass Vase – Controlled Bubble Flower Foot c.1960s

A wonderfully distinctive piece of Swedish mid-century art glass by Åseda Glasbruk, dating from the 1960s and standing approximately 6" / 15.2 cm tall.

The vessel has a beautifully simple rounded bowl in vivid emerald green glass, with a wide polished rim and subtle optical movement through the body. The restrained upper form makes the base all the more spectacular.

Beneath the green bowl is a substantial clear glass flower-shaped foot, formed into rounded lobes and filled with numerous suspended air bubbles. Viewed from underneath, the foot resembles a clear glass flower surrounding the green centre of the vessel.

This distinctive construction provides the strongest evidence for the Åseda attribution. A closely matching documented Åseda example is described specifically as having a green glass bowl standing on a clear flower-shaped foot filled with controlled bubbles. The reference example dates to the 1960s.

Åseda Glasbruk

Åseda Glasbruk was a Swedish glassworks particularly associated with colourful Scandinavian modernist glass. Bo Borgström became closely associated with the factory during the 1960s and helped establish the bold forms and colours for which Åseda is now collected. Specialist reference material documents numerous Åseda designs combining coloured glass with clear glass and controlled-bubble decoration.

There is an interesting wrinkle with this particular design. The closely matching reference example notes that the flower-foot form was already in production before Borgström's association with Åseda, while the green colour was introduced during his period at the factory. For that reason, although the piece belongs firmly within Åseda's 1960s production, I would not advertise this particular form as designed by Bo Borgström unless further catalogue evidence establishes that attribution.

That is a slightly more conservative attribution than many online listings, but a much safer one for Katie's Vintage Corner.
