Vintage Hand-Carved Wooden Laughing Buddha Budai Statue – 5"

A wonderfully characterful hand-carved wooden Budai, commonly known as the Laughing Buddha, with a rich warm-brown polished finish and attractive aged patina.

The seated figure has been carved with plenty of personality, from his smiling expression and wonderfully rounded belly to the folds of his robes, individually defined fingers and toes and textured circular base.

The underside is unfinished compared with the polished carving and retains visible wood grain and tool marks, supporting its hand-carved construction.

At approximately 5 inches tall, this is a substantial little decorative carving that would display beautifully on a bookshelf, side table or amongst a collection of Asian-inspired decorative pieces.

Budai is traditionally depicted as a cheerful, rotund figure and is associated with happiness, contentment, generosity and abundance.
