A Poole Pottery Springbok bookend featuring an elegantly stylised antelope above a distinctive geometric base, finished in a rich, glossy dark-green glaze.
The Springbok was originally designed by John Adams in 1926 and is one of Poole Pottery’s distinctive Art Deco animal designs. The graceful modelling of the animal contrasts with the bold architectural lines and curved detailing of the base.
This example bears the Poole Pottery England factory mark and handwritten CB initials underneath. The marking and glaze suggest it may be later production rather than an original 1920s–1930s example, although the exact manufacturing date is unconfirmed.
