Vintage Ravello Italian Hand-Painted Art Pottery Jug – 6" Ochre & Cream

A wonderfully warm and rustic vintage pottery jug from Ravello, Italy, decorated by hand in a distinctive Mediterranean palette of cream, ochre yellow and earthy brown.

The jug has a softly flared pouring rim, substantial curved handle and rounded lower body decorated with repeating stylised floral or fan-shaped motifs, framed by hand-painted bands. The slightly irregular lines, glaze variations and softly textured finish give it genuine artisan character rather than the uniform appearance of factory-produced ceramics.

Most importantly, the worn circular base stamp reads Ravello, confirming the attribution that was difficult to decipher from the original photograph.

Ravello on Italy's Amalfi Coast has a recognised tradition of hand-painted ceramics, and vintage Ravello-marked pitchers and other pottery survive in a wide variety of individually decorated designs. Comparable examples are described as hand-painted Italian ceramic or majolica pottery.
