Vintage Turquoise Blue Pressed Glass Pinwheel Starburst Pedestal Vase – 9.5"

A striking vintage turquoise-blue pressed glass pedestal vase, standing approximately 9.5" / 24 cm tall, with a wonderfully bold geometric design that catches the light from every direction.

The vase has a tall flared trumpet form rising from a substantial circular pedestal foot. Its upper edge finishes in a dramatic scalloped rim, giving the silhouette plenty of movement while allowing the rich turquoise colour to glow particularly strongly around the edge.

The moulded decoration is exceptionally detailed. Large fan motifs sweep upwards towards the rim, while the lower body incorporates repeated pinwheel and starburst designs, angular chevrons and finely ribbed geometric panels. Looking down into the vase reveals how the different motifs interlock to create an almost kaleidoscopic effect.

The underside of the pedestal is decorated with a further radiating starburst, so even the base has been incorporated into the overall design.

Close examination shows three mould seams, confirming that the vase was produced using a multi-part mould rather than being individually wheel-cut. This is therefore correctly described as pressed/moulded glass, despite the decoration closely imitating traditional cut-crystal patterns.

Small air bubbles are also present within the glass. These are manufacturing characteristics rather than damage.

Pinwheel, fan, hobstar and starburst motifs have a long history in pressed glass and were deliberately designed to reproduce the sparkling appearance of much more labour-intensive cut glass. Comparable vintage pressed-glass pieces combine pinwheel and hobstar decoration with deeply scalloped rims.

Coloured examples are particularly decorative. A documented vintage aqua pressed-glass piece combines the same broad aqua colouring, pinwheel/starburst decoration and substantial heavy construction, while other 9.5-inch pedestal vases are recorded with scalloped rims and starburst bases.

Although similar designs were produced by recognised manufacturers including Fenton, we have not found a sufficiently close documented factory pattern to attribute this vase to a particular maker. It is therefore offered as an unidentified vintage pressed-glass piece rather than making a speculative attribution. A documented Fenton Pinwheel and Star piece, for comparison, carries an identifiable Fenton mark.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks.

There may be minor surface marks or shelf wear consistent with previous display and age. Small bubbles within the glass are manufacturing characteristics and not damage.

This is one of those pieces that photographs well but should be considerably better in natural light. The deep moulded geometry sends the turquoise colour through the pinwheels and fans, giving it far more depth than a plain coloured vase.
