Vintage Wadeheath Flaxman Ware No. 305 Tan Rabbit Figurine – 5.5"

A charming vintage Wadeheath ceramic rabbit, model No. 305, finished in a warm tan/caramel glaze and standing approximately 5.5" / 14 cm tall.

This distinctive seated rabbit has the characteristic long upright ears, rounded body, tucked paws and wonderfully expressive dark painted eyes associated with the No. 305 form. The warm mottled glaze gives the figure plenty of character while allowing the simple moulded shape to do most of the talking.

The underside has the original hollow construction and is marked MADE IN ENGLAND, together with the 305 model number.

Wade Heath & Co. of Burslem was known for decorative and ornamental earthenware, using trade names including Wadeheath Ware and Flaxman Ware. Wade's own history records that its Art Deco Flaxman shapes were produced during the 1930s and continued into the 1940s, while animal figures became an increasingly important part of the company's decorative output.

Model 305 is documented among Wade Heath's rabbit figures, including a blue Flaxman Ware example dated to 1939.

Condition: Good vintage condition with age-related surface marks and manufacturing irregularities consistent with an older ceramic figure. Please study all photographs carefully, particularly the glaze, ears, paws and base, as they form part of the condition description.

A lovely piece of collectable British Wade pottery, and a much more substantial early rabbit than the tiny Wade Whimsies that became famous during the 1950s. Wade confirms that its Whimsies concept was developed later in that decade
